We’re excited to celebrate the one-year anniversary of our Love Does School in Mexico! Thanks to your support, over 600 students have begun life-changing journeys, with 121 currently enrolled. Our school offers primary, secondary, and college prep classes, along with emotional and psychological support. It’s more than a place to learn, it’s a safe haven for children who have fled cartel violence, trafficking, and conflict.

“Being part of the Love Does School is a privilege. Helping children build a better future and reintegrate into school life is a big responsibility, but it’s also one of the most rewarding experiences, especially when they smile, hug you, and say thank you. None of it would be possible without an extraordinary team.”
– Lizbeth, Teacher at Love Does School

One of our biggest highlights this year has been helping teens who never had formal schooling learn to read and write for the first time. Josué, 16, shared, “Before coming here, I was rebellious and had trouble getting along with people, but the teachers showed me care and support I’d never experienced. I’ve changed a lot. I try to get along with everyone now, and even though I talk a lot in class, I’m learning and having fun.”

Now, we’re launching 40 of our high school graduates to take their college entrance exams, a major step toward their dreams. Thank you for continuing to walk with us as we support and empower students in Mexico.

Last week, we gathered Love Does in Action College Leaders and friends of Love Does from all across the map to partner with YWAM Homes of Hope in Mexico. In just two days, we built two entire houses from the ground up!

This trip was about more than building walls and roofs. It was about building a life of purpose. Between hammering nails and putting up drywall, we laughed, shared stories, and got our hands (and shoes) covered in mud. No amount of rain or mess could shake the joy of seeing a family step into their brand-new home for the first time.

These families received a place to dream, grow, and build their futures and every person who came along didn’t just swing a hammer—they built something lasting in their own hearts, too.

We’re so grateful for everyone who joined, supported, and cheered this trip on. Watch this video to see the smiles, the mud, and the moments we’ll never forget.

Let’s keep building homes, hope, and lives full of purpose.

Tijuana, Mexico hosts the largest refugee camp in North America home to 1,700-2,000 refugees from all over the world. Most are fleeing human trafficking, war, extreme poverty, or cartel violence. The dangers they faced were so severe that many had no choice but to leave their countries in search of safety.

Many of the children and families at the camp have had little to no access to education in their home countries. Recognizing this need, we launched the Love Does School in Tijuana, Mexico, just six months ago. We opened the first formal school at the camp, serving 200 children—primary students in the morning and secondary students in the afternoon. Many of these students will cross the border and enter US schools and this is their first chance at an education. We would love to give these students a robust library with your help.

As the children and families wait for the next steps in their asylum process, often spending 7-8 months in the camp, they now have access to much-needed education.

Our mission is to help these children move beyond their trauma, build a foundation of peace and love, and instill confidence in themselves. With the right support, we believe they can create a bright future. We are excited about the transformative impact this school will have on these families, both now and in the years to come. For many students, this will be their first exposure to formal education, offering them a crucial foundation for shaping their future.

We are thrilled to announce the official opening of our primary and secondary school in Tijuana, Mexico. This school is located at the largest asylum camp in North America where more than 1,500 families are seeking refuge from human trafficking, extreme poverty and/or the cartel. Many of the children of these families have had no access to formal education before now. The Love Does School will not only provide much-needed education, but a safe and nurturing learning environment, a place of belonging and a beacon of hope for future opportunities.

Our grand celebration was held on May 15th, 2024 – and it was filled with so much joy! The students, teachers, state officials and Love Does staff came together to recognize – and celebrate – the significance of the school’s opening. The day consisted of singing and dancing, games, face painting and, of course, balloons! Love Does is all about inviting fun into spaces where there is heaviness and hardships and this was no exception; the overwhelming highlight of the day, though, was the permanent smiles on the children’s faces.

Check out this video to see the highlights!

Mexico Asylum School Soft Launch https://lovedoes.org/mexico-asylum-school-soft-launch/ Fri, 05 Apr 2024 16:47:53 +0000 https://lovedoes.org/?p=7073 The post Mexico Asylum School Soft Launch appeared first on Love Does.

This week we had a soft launch for our newest Love Does school! It’s located at the largest asylum camp in Mexico just over the border between San Diego and Tijuana. 180 students began class and we are looking forward to the official grand opening of the school in May where 400 kids aged 6-16 will attend the school. This asylum camp in Tijuana hosts 1,700-2,000 refugees coming from Haiti, Afghanistan, Ukraine, and various parts of Central and South America. Most of the kids and families residing at the asylum camp are undereducated as a result of political unrest, Covid or a lack of access to education in their origin country. The children, especially, are in desperate need of formal teaching while they wait months or years before being admitted into the United States to enter our local public schools.
The Love Does School has 8 classrooms for primary and secondary education, a computer lab, library, and a psychologist on site. Our goal is to provide children with structure and optimism through character-based education. For many, this will mark their first exposure to a formal education, thus serving as a crucial stepping stone for shaping their future. Education will offer stability and will equip students with essential skills for fostering friendships, cultivating peace, and hopefully discovering joy even amidst their challenging circumstances.

The Love Does in Action Clubs are here! This program was created to provide college students with a space to partner with Love Does and find ways on their respective campuses to carry out the mission of our organization – which is all about living out love in the most extraordinary ways. The premise of the club centers around this question: “If you received a small grant, how would you use that to impact your community?”
To kick off the launch of the LDIA clubs, the Love Does staff joined forces with the leaders of the inaugural college clubs to do a home build for a family in need just 30 minutes south of our San Diego office, in Tijuana, Mexico. In partnership with YWAM/Homes of Hope, we built a home for this family in just two days! This endeavor not only addresses the need for immediate housing, but also contributes to economic, educational, health, and spiritual advancements for the family.

The impact of this home build extends beyond the family receiving it as each of us that participated were inspired and moved beyond measure.
